The 4th team made it 15 wins in a row, seeing out the season in style yesterday. Against a stubborn Winnington side—who were disarmingly nice—we spent most of the first half camped in and around their D. With Charlie C a constant menace in midfield, chances came thick and fast, but a resolute goalkeeping display from Andy L kept us to 4–0 at half-time, with a goal each from Gus J, Andy H, Pete L, and Jack W.

Winnington battened down the hatches in the second half and did their best to keep us out. After realising that Kirky was our only regular player not to have scored this season, we resolved to let him take the strikes at short corners and bag his elusive goal. Sixteen missed short corners later and we were ruing our kind-heartedness, though we still let him have a jog up front for the last five. Gus bagged his second of the day midway through the half to make it 5–0, and we saw the game out from there—although we did have to defend a couple of short corners at the death.

And with that, the season draws to a close. It’s great to see the 3rd and 4th teams achieve promotion this year, which will leave the 3rd to 6th teams in separate leagues. On our way to winning the league, we scored a frankly outrageous 175 goals while conceding only 31, winning 19, drawing 2 (that save on the line at Knutsford is still bugging me), and losing 1.

On a personal note, we’ve had a great squad who have been a pleasure to captain. In particular, it’s been fantastic to see the progression of our junior players, who will be great additions to the higher teams as they move up through the club. Over and out!
