The 4s dug deep to record a hard-fought victory against a resolute Knutsford side today. Regular readers will be shocked to hear that we were slow to get going, unlike Knutsford who were straight out of the blocks with some intense pressure that was rewarded with a PC goal early on. This still didn't kick us into gear, it was a slow pitch and the whole game felt like a grind. Nevertheless, we got stuck in and Matt C, who had the proverbial kicked out of him for the entire game, levelled with a great strike from the top of the D. Del then stuck a PC away with a trademark finish to leave us 2-1 up going in at the interval.
The 2nd half was slighly less frantic. Knutsford levelled early on. In hindsight, leaving Brocky (comfortably the oldest player on the pitch) to mark their quickest midfielder was asking for trouble, and indeed it was. At 2-2, we spent long periods camped in Knutsfords half and had several short corners, all to no avail. Del and Pete both had shots saved by Knutsford players throwing themselves at the ball and then finally, up stepped Jack W with a great finish from a short corner to put us back in the lead with 10 minutes to go. What followed, when we should really have been calmly seeing the game out, was a series of uneccessarials thrown across our own D, passing to their forward at the top of the D and finally conceding a short corner right at the death. Room to improve on that front perhaps, but we'll take the win.
MOTM: Matt C- midfield powerhouse who never let up.
DOTD: Charlie C-forgot the fines book.
