What a game. What a rollercoaster of emotions. What a result.
The 4th team made it 10 wins in a row with a nail-biting victory against Macc 2s, which put us top of the table for the first time this season. With the lowest number of juniors available to play this season (a testament to the pull of a half-term skiing holiday), we were slow out of the blocks and found ourselves two goals down in short order.
As is usual with the 4th team, this was the kick we needed, and the rest of the first half was spent hammering the Macc goal. Our pressure began to pay off and we scored three goals from short corners in quick succession to go in 3–2 up at the break.
The passage of play after the break was end to end. Macc equalised, we responded, Macc equalised again, and so it went on. Del was imperious, notching four goals with some sublime finishing at the far post. Matt C and Gus J were relentless in midfield, winning tackles and never letting up.
With 15 minutes to go, our CB Angus L scored a great goal after scything through the Macc midfield and defence to leave us 6–4 up. Rob C missed a great chance to put us three ahead and then — disaster — Macc scored. Our heads had a bit of a wobble at this point and, with Macc scenting blood, we were under the cosh for the remainder of the match. Nevertheless, we held out to record a vital win.
MOTM: Del — four goals from our finishing wizard.
DOTD: Rob C — I don't want to talk about it.
Next up: Knutsford 1s, 2pm at Knutsford Leisure Centre.
