With a depleted side, the M4s emerged victorious against a spirited Alderley Edge team on Saturday morning. Starting with a bare eleven, we settled into the game well and were soon scoring.

The Tiverton crowd were treated to the spectacle of Pete Lawlor in full flight, scything through the Alderley defence with the wind whistling through his hair (singular) as he bagged an excellent hat-trick. Brocky, who arrived late, managed to score with his very first touch. It was one of those games.

Alderley did pull one back through a short corner, where our post man—who shan't be named (Jack)—went AWOL, but for the most part they couldn’t handle our pressing. Our juniors were at times like a pack of terriers scenting a kill, such was their eagerness to score.

The second half played out much the same as the first: we kept our intensity up and the goals kept flowing. With the score at 8–1, Alderley had a rare foray into our half. Sensing that our grip on the game was in peril and that Alderley were about to score nine goals in the next ten minutes, Charlie C decided the only sensible option was to stick-tackle someone and then get green-carded for complaining about the decision. This proved an inspired move—showing real team commitment—as we scored two more with him off the pitch, leaving the final score at 10–1.
