The M4s navigated what has often been a challenging fixture against the auld enemy with a display of attacking hockey the likes of which hasn’t been seen since we last played at Tiverton. It took a while for us to really get going — Matt C scored early on, but we didn’t quite push on from there. Rob C added another from a Charlie C assist to make it 2–0 at half-time, but we lost our shape towards the end of the half and spent too long running shuttles up and down the pitch.
Nevertheless, the second half was much better. Further goals from Matt C (3), Angus (1), Rob (1), and Charlie (1) left us with an 8–0 final score. Three and a half goals were the direct result of our sustained pressure, with Gus 1 and Gus 2 (on debut) both putting in a real shift in midfield. Jack H and Kirky (returning from sabbatical) marshalled the defence nicely and kept the ball moving well out from the back.
All in all it was a good game of hockey played in the right spirit, Brocky hadn't spilled a single drop of blood by the end so he either hadn't tried hard enough or the 5s went too easy on us. Either way, we'll take the win.
Final Score: 8–0
MOTM: Angus Leonard — a top performance with some great passes that really opened the 5s up.
DOTD: Del — non-scoring forward, failed to live up to his pre-match promise of a hat-trick!
