We are delighted to announce the appointment of Robbie Smith as the Men’s 1s and performance squad coach.
Robbie made his National League debut for Cannock HC, then the leading club side in England, at the age of 16, going on to win the National League Premier Division title on three occasions. In all he played 11 seasons in the Premier Division – 8 with Cannock and 3 for Loughborough Students. He also played for Loughborough Students in the EuroHockey League.
Robbie has represented England at multiple age groups winning a total of 24 caps and won 2 caps playing for England A.
He has also had 11 seasons playing National League indoor.
In addition to his long-playing career at the top levels of hockey, Robbie brings to us an extensive coaching experience - a range that includes Loughborough University, club senior performance squads, and training and running camps for juniors. He has most recently been Director of Hockey at Stone HC, Performance Coach for Stone Ladies’ 1s, Performance Coach at Denstone College, and a Performance Coach at Perfx Hockey.
Robbie starts with the club in July and will work with our other coaches to ensure we develop and implement a programme and mindset that delivers both an attractive and effective playing style; enhances our ability to move talent through into the senior teams; and which creates a positive energy that reinforces that Deeside Ramblers is a great place to play and enjoy hockey both on and off the pitch.
