Firstly a big thanks to those who turned out today, meant we had a team in the cup even if the warm up was spent comparing who’s injuries were in a worse state compared to the opposition who just seemed to keep turning up.
Once the hockey started we settled in being very organised, thanks to Cocksy for the instructions of where we needed to be to frustrate the numbers of Didsbury.
We went ahead thanks to a well placed drag flick from Steve C and then we started playing so good passing and moving hockey with the occasional aerial from Geoff at the back to give some relief. Sheddy between the sticks keeping us in it with saves that were rolling back the years. Then Didsbury struck with a well placed drag flick of their own to fetch the scores level. Also a mention to Cocksy for a goal line stop as well.
We went into half time level and feeling like we’d played the better hockey so feeling that the game would be there for a quick breakaway goal.
Sadly Didsbury’s numbers started to give them the advantage as the half went on with 2 more goals scored from short corners despite what we thought would good tackles from our defence. End result 3-1 loss but we can hold our heads high given the squad that turned out and look forwards to next round which will be in the plate on 30th November
Man of Match— Sheddy for keeping us in the game with excellent saves and also playing 2 games in one day
Dick of the Day— PJ for ambition and ability not being on the same level for an upright reverse stick hit on the move
