A depleted 4th team succumbed to their first defeat in 12 months against Bolton. Despite starting well, we struggled to create chances. This had nothing to do with Hayto being off playing golf and Jack H taking his place up front, honest. Charlie C, replacing Matt C at the top of the diamond for the match, was incredibly unlucky to be yellow-carded for a blatant shove on a Bolton player after 25 minutes. Bolton capitalised on their numerical advantage to score a decidedly flukey goal and followed this up with another fluke 10 minutes later, leaving us 2-0 down at half-time.
Following a half-time team talk in which we all impressed upon Charlie C the importance of not doing anything rash and getting sent off, he immediately went and did something rash and got sent off. With Josh H out of action with a chest infection, we were down to 10 men with no subs for the remaining 30 minutes of the match. Kirky and James C battened down the hatches admirably, although a well-taken PC left us 3-0 down and staring down the barrel.
Following this, though, we weathered the Bolton attacks quite nicely and even ventured into their half from time to time. Jack H, after failing to get a touch in the Bolton D whilst playing up front, went on a mazy run from right-back (without the ball) and ended up right in front of the Bolton keeper, just in time to put away an opportunistic finish to make it 3-1. Alas, he was unable to repeat these heroics three more times in the final two minutes, and we suffered our first defeat for quite a while, though we won't hold it against him.
MOTM: Brocky – ran more than anyone on the pitch, with the odd crunching tackle thrown in for good measure.
DOTD: Charlie C - early shower.
