The Under 12 girls did us proud today.  We took two teams to the In 2 tournament at Chester hockey club. Team 2 consisted of both year 6 and year 7 players.  The girls won 2, drew 1 and lost 1 to the eventual winners of the tournament.  This put us through to the runners up semi-final where we lost to Bowden 1’s 3-0.  The score-line does not reflect the game however, we had the majority of the play, but were unable to capitalise on our opportunities in front of goal.  A great day for our young players whose performance bodes well for next season.

Team 1 played some fantastic hockey, moving the ball with pace and accuracy; winning 3 games and drawing 1. The girls went through as winners to the semi’s and came up against Alderley Edge.  The game tied after 13 minutes meant a penalty shootout.  The girls have practised for this moment at training, but a few inevitable nerves put Alderley through to the final.  We were given a reprieve however, when we discovered Alderley 2’s had also made the final and only one team per club can go to the regionals.  That meant a Deeside v Neston 1’s play off!! Exhausted emotionally and physically the girls gave it their all. A close game finishing 1-1 and yes would you believe it another penalty shootout-what are the chances!!  Unfortunately we lost 5-4 on flicks.

We have 40 plus Under 12 girls who attend training on a Wednesday night many of whom are incredibly talented.  I am so proud of the progress they are all making and not least their commitment and determination to learn and improve.  Training continues right through to July! See you there.
