National Plate Knockout competition

Congratulations to the under 18 boys team following a fantastic but nail biting 6:4 win over Rotherham Boys in the National Plate Knockout competition. The boys are now through to round three and face Alderley Edge on Sunday 14th February, if you are looking for somewhere to take your loved one on Valentine's Day then come along to Alderley Edge and cheer on the boys!

Pre Season Warmups

Deeside Ramblers, Cheshire's only national League hockey club, have now almost completed their pre-season warm-up games. They began with Cannock, as you might as well start at the top, who although short of two internationals, were surprised to be beaten 5-3. Deeside followed this with a 1-1 draw at Bowden, a game they might well have won, and then in a tri-angular tournament beat Braford Tigers 7-6, before losing to Bournville 5-6. Last week, for the first home game they beat Lytham convincingly 4-0. The final warm-up is at the Tarporley ground on the 12th at noon, when we entertain Birmingham University, before the first game in the National League against Formby - Sunday 20th at 2pm.Full details and directions on our web site.

Juniors in Holland

Over the Whitsun Holidays two DRHC Juniors , Huw Barrett (14) and Jonny Verity (13) were invited by Lytham St. Annes H.C. to join a ‘rag-tag’ group of players from various clubs in the North West under the name of ‘The Northern Lads’ to play in the Kruikentournament in Tilburg, Holland for under 17 year olds. This tournament has a boys and girls section to it and is well patronized by teams/clubs from Scotland, Germany, Belgium, France, Austria and of course Holland all of whom camp around the pitch creating a jamboree atmosphere. As for results ‘ The Northern Lads’ most of whom were 13, 14 years old acquitted themselves very well, only losing any game by no more than 1 goal , and eventually winning one 4-0. I think they want to go back next year just to prove a point, examinations permitting.
