The U18 boys side played in the national plate finals at Beeston.
In the semi final we played the reigning champions Eastbourne The game was a hard match with several of the Deeside team making an overnight ferry crossing from Holland where they were on tour with King's school to play in the match. The sides were even at half time thanks to excellent defensive play from Harle and helm and a missed penalty attempt following smart work in the circle from Roger. The second half saw a spirited fight from the ramblers with Ankers making several smart saves and then goals from Cope and Roger sam Deeside secure a place in the final against Taunton
The final presented a tough obstacle for the tiring Deeside squad who were 2 down by half time. Constant pressure began to tell though and captain Martyn Lear pulled one back to set up a thrilling last ten minutes. Despite Colquouhn hitting the post and Cope shaving the bar deeside had to settle for second place and silver medals.
England Hockey’s Single System (LTAD) – Deeside Ramblers Hockey Club Juniors are benefiting enormously from England Hockey’s Single System of hockey for Juniors which is effectively up and running and is the way forward for our sport, for those who are not familiar with it, please bring yourself up to date by accessing all the information via the England Hockey website. Please ask your child’s Coach for more information and be sure to speak to any of the Juniors , and there are approximately over 30 boys and girls, currently in the system who should also give you an insight into what may be possible for your child.
The Club is always keen for parents to get involved with the Junior Section particularly in the area of Coaching and Saturday Game Management and from our experience we have found that the more that get involved the less onerous it becomes and any contribution however small is invaluable.
As a guide to the areas in which we request your help, please see “Parent/Carer as Volunteer”, Page 5 of the
Member Pack. If you have a wish to contribute, please make yourself known to any Club Official or your child’s Coach.
